Rams Watching Wilson, Seahawks Negotiations Ahead Of QB Goff Extension

There are many around the NFL who are watching quarterback Russell Wilson’s contract negotiations with the Seattle Seahawks, but maybe none more closely than the NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams and their QB Jared Goff.

Though head coach Sean McVay has indicated that the team is not currently working on a new deal for Goff, there’s no question that he’ll command a pretty penny when the two sides do decide to come to the table.

The Rams already set a precedent for huge contracts during the last offseason, extending defensive end Aaron Donald for 6 years and $135 million with $87 million guaranteed, and running back Todd Gurley for four-years, $60 million with $45 million guaranteed.

Yet neither of those stars is the quarterback, one who took his team all the way to the Super Bowl.

Russell Wilson did the same for the Seahawks, and his new contract could set a new floor for the position. Goff may not be Mr. Wilson, but he is young, growing fast, and far greater than some of his competition in the league.

(via Ramblin Fan): Thanks to the Rams winning the NFC West title two years in a row to go along with their recent appearance in Super Bowl 53, Los Angeles is most likely already weighing out potential contract scenarios for Goff, mainly because they realize the importance of making him happy.

Los Angeles may prefer to wait, and hold off on Goff’s next deal to focus all of the attention on the 2019 season, but even they know this situation could become unavoidable, especially if Wilson ends up breaking the bank in Seattle.

Along with the Rams, a number of teams with quarterbacks nearing the end of their current deals will likely be holding their breath as they wait for the final numbers to drop in Seattle. If free agency deals are any indication, Goff may end up swimming in gold in the City of Angels.
